i2C, Ryder & BIM Academy Collaboration win “Build Earth Live” Award!

Well done to the NE1forBIM team for taking out a major award at the recent Build Earth Live competition. With over 40 people, from 14 different companies, 11 disciplines across four different cities the Teams submission won the “Best Multi-Disciplinary BIM & use of Interoperability” Award.

i2C collaborated alongside fellow members of the Ryder Alliance (Ryder Architecture & BIM Academy) to join the competition in a team with others around the globe.

The Awardaward

Build Earth Live is a 48 hour design collaboration competition which aims to showcase the use of BIM across the construction disciplines. At midday (GMT) on the 16th of March we received the brief and then had 48 hours to enter our submission.

The brief was to create a Digital Innovation and Showcase Centre which was to include space for start up businesses, academic research, a new digital library, laboratories to test drive innovation, retail space to sell innovation, educational facilities, spaces to meet and collaborate, network and engage, social spaces and the obligatory coffee shop and 900 car park spaces. The site given was 17,000m2 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), just next to the river Tyne.

You could imagine the logistics alone for getting everyone organised and on the same page was huge but lots of fun. The goals weren’t so much to produce a visually stunning model, but more about the information that was input and could be extracted from the model.

We produced three model audits for the four discipline models (Architecture, Structure, Landscape and Mechanical), some Navisworks clash detections and model reviews and some visualisations.
