Nature Calling? Parent Rooms Transformed

Interior Design has Moved Cranbourne Park’s Shopping Centre Parent Room into an Inviting Space

Nappy change time, a hungry baby, or worse still an urgent dash to the bathroom with a toilet training toddler. It’s an experience that most parent or care-givers dread, particularly in public places like shopping centres. Traditionally a cold, uninviting cubicle awaits with cramped conditions as you negotiate doors, tiles, prams and trolleys.

Well times have been a changing!

Our Interiors Studio has shaped the Cranbourne Park Parent’s Room into a space that not only feels warm and contemporary, but is inviting to both adults and children.

Due to open late 2014 Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre in Melbourne’s South-Eastern growth corridor will see a massive revitalisation for the local community. i2C have worked with Federation on the design of the Centre and our Interiors team have taken things to a new level within the Parent’s Room.

Just as the architectural narrative and the focal heritage oak tree at Cranbourne Park played a major role in the shaping of our urban design and retail framework, a neutral earthy palette was chosen to complement the strong sense of nature and enhance the interiors.

Gone are the days of cubicles with drop down change trays, this area is now transformed with recessed moulded change tables and separate bathrooms. The “lounge” area will boast several comfortable couches and separate feeding pods ensure privacy with soft lighting, fun ottomans, snug armchairs, splashes of colour and playful wall decals.

You could be mistaken for thinking you had taken a wrong turn.

In creating this inviting space, we share our top three products that have provided earthy and inviting warmth:

Bolon Missoni Floor Covering

Inspired by nature we have selected Bolon’s Missoni flooring range, a collaboration with Rosita Missoni who’s approach to colour gives its products an unmistakably strong character of their own that is instantly recognisable around the world. The autumnal yellow and orange woven Missoni pattern is earthy, homely and contemporary.

Tretford Carpet

We have further complemented this with Tretford’s “dark chocolate” carpet, known for their environmental attributes from the composition of renewable fibres down to the production process. In this space Tretford really evokes the concept of nature as well as tying in pops of vibrant colour within flooring and furniture pieces.

Earp Bros – Wall Tile

Finally we have selected a ceramic parquet wall tile that holds the appearance of a natural wood texture from Earp Bros to separate the lounge from baby change space.

So the evolution of Parent’s Rooms has begun, nature calling has never been so stress free.
