Revisiting Cranebrook Village, Post Completion

Since its opening in December 2016, Cranebrook Village has become not only a retail destination but is a meeting place for everyone in the neighbourhood.

The objective of this project was to revitalise the existing Cranebrook Village through the development of two supermarkets (Woolworths and Aldi), specialty shops and public domain in the form of a village green.

This vision provided the much needed variety and retail mix on the existing retail site enabling a strong retail hub in the precinct.

Project Outcomes

Located 65km west of Sydney’s CBD, Cranebrook receives the extremities of the Sydney climate with colder winters and hotter summers. The design aims to encapsulate this place for the community by providing identity, an enclosure from the weather, a space in which the community can gather and meet, a robust structure with ability to withstand the climate and wear and tear.

The design of the screened element of the village green structure is inspired by the gum trees that surround the site. These trees with their tall and skinny trunks and leafy branches provide screening, shade and a break in an otherwise suburban landscape.

Since its opening in December 2016, Cranebrook Village has become not only a retail destination but is a meeting place for everyone in the neighbourhood. Surrounded by Cranebrook High School, childcare, community and health centres, the centre sits comfortably within its surroundings and the local residents. The village feel of the centre offers a landscaped public area which invites the community to stay, rest and connect. The additional amenities and retail shops have seen an increase in local employment and convenience shoppers.

The highly vegetated site and climbing elements will continue to grow and symbolise the pre-development habitat of once trees and shrubs. As time passes, the Gabion walls surrounding the carpark will be filled by vegetation and silt which will not only reinforce the walls but add landscaping to the site.

Project Feedback

“I truly believe that we have achieved a first-class suburban centre. The local community love the amenity and take great pride in the development which is the ultimate test. i2C’s retail knowledge and collaborative approach was vital to the successful design of Cranebrook Village Shopping Centre.” Allinson- Design Director, AusPacific Property Group
