Brisbane’s new studio launch
Earlier this month we hosted an event to celebrate the launch of our i2C Brisbane’s new studio, located on Turrbal and Yuggera Country. Our new space was thoughtfully co-created to reflect our values and place in the wider community.
We were excited to be able to welcome clients, builders, suppliers, and friends into the studio celebrate our Brisbane’s new studio space and what it means to us.
Our Interior Design for the studio aimed to work with the existing conditions of the space with simple but impactful changes. The interior was uplifted by adding vibrancy through colour and graphics, building openings to bring more connectivity and natural light, and creating a space in the heart of the office that could be used to meet, collaborate, and entertain. The design leaned on some of the key principles of playfulness, effortless charm and easy-going character seen in the other studios, with a touch of refinement to symbolize the continuing evolution of the brand.
Our Branded Environments team created the experiential graphics for the new space. The graphics displayed across the studio are a love letter to reconciliation and community. Upon entry the first graphic engages and invites visitors to explore place through cultural icons and symbols that build upon the fabric of the local and regional community of South Brisbane. It is i2C placing itself within and celebrating the existing ecosystem of the region, all tied together through the backbone of Meanjin, Brisbane; Maiwar, the Brisbane River.
The subsequent studio graphics explore the ideas of regeneration and imagination, encouraging a reframing of thinking and our place as both inhabitants and colonialists of this Country. They explore the idea of small actions leading to greater positive changes.
Drawing visitors into the wider studio workspaces, the graphic at the rear of the studio makes a statement of reclamation. Much like stickering in street art culture, the Meanjin sticker placed over the top of the colonial naming of South Brisbane, we see a reclamation of names.
Co-created with Bernice Hookey, proud Waanyi and Muruwari woman, the artworks are anchored in and tell the story of place while celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and shared cultures.
Thank you to everyone who helps us in creating Briabane’s new studio space and those who joined us on the night.
