Located 65km west of Sydney’s CBD, Cranebrook receives the extremities of the Sydney climate with colder winters and hotter summers. The design encapsulates the centre as an enclosure from the weather, a space in which the community can gather and meet.
The screened element design is inspired by the gum trees that surround the site. These trees with their tall and skinny trunks and leafy branches provide screening, shade and a break in an otherwise suburban landscape, a robust structure with the ability to withstand the climate and wear and tear.
Since its opening in December 2016, Cranebrook Village has become not only a retail destination but is a meeting place for everyone in the neighbourhood. Surrounded by Cranebrook High School, a childcare, community and health centres, the centre sits comfortably within its surroundings and the local residents.
The village feel of the centre offers a landscaped public area which invites the community to stay, rest and connect. The additional amenities and retail shops have increased local employment and convenience shoppers. Over time, the Gabion walls surrounding the carpark will be filled by vegetation adding more greenery to the site.
The vegetation will continue to grow to improve the landscape around the centre
