The Goods Shed, Best of Region Winner

i2C is proud to announce that The Goods Shed, Ballarat is a Best of Region Winner in the 2023 Shaw Contract Design Awards.

The Goods Shed is located on Lydiard Street, Ballarat and forms part of the broader Ballarat Station Precinct. The Goods Shed transforms the local area with its new event spaces which house a myriad of cafes and restaurants.

Drawing inspiration from place, and heritage, i2C and the collaborating teams ensured the retention of as much character as possible. Artefacts were salvaged from the previous buildings to use within The Goods Shed and surrounding areas of the precinct.

The re-use and sustainable recycling of existing elements was a particularly important element of the design. The project team was able to restore many of the previously existing artefacts in order to reduce the environmental impact of construction.

As a result of over 650 submissions spanning 40 countries, 39 projects have emerged as Best of Region Winners in the 2023 Shaw Contract Design Awards. Selected by a panel of judges from around the world, these projects represent the best of design from each region. Each of the winners will move forward to the next stage of judging to crown the ‘best of the best’ – the Best of Globe.
